Holiday period characterised by major price climbs

Focus week 32: Recent weeks have been characterised by major new price climbs in the Nordic region. The most frequently traded contracts are now at the highest price levels observed in years.

Here and now

Since our most recent edition of Focus back in week 29, we have simply seen the already extremely high Nordic electricity prices climb even further. The pressure on the hydro-balance remains very high, with the current level around -18 TWh and, while fuel and carbon prices are also continuing to soar, Nordic electricity prices have also experienced an uptrend. When the market closed on Monday, the Q4-21 and YR-22 contracts had climbed to EUR 59.50/MWh and EUR 38.50/MWh, which are the highest levels observed for both contracts since 2019.
